Abstract. In his article V.N. Kolbanovsky conveyed his impressions of participating in the VII Interna-tional conference on psychotechnics, held in Moscow on September 8-13, 1931. At the beginning of the article, he spoke at length about the difference between bourgeois and Soviet psychotechnics: bourgeois psychotechnics mercilessly exploited the working man, protecting only the interests of entrepreneurs, while the Soviet system, possessing the method of dialectical materialism, kept in its field of vision the interests of the socialist economy as a whole and defended them not to the detri-ment of the interests of the worker, sought out opportunities for the best use of his forces and abili-ties for production, for the maximum and all-round development of each working person. Soviet psychotechnicians studied labor and the working man from the point of view of the defining and decisive influence of the social-political environment, to which the biological and psychological laws of each person were subject. According to the author of the article, precisely such ideological sys-tems clashed at the conference, the prominent representatives of which were, on the one hand, W. Stern, W. Möde (Germany), F. Mauvezin (France), F. Baumgarten (Switzerland) and others, with their reactionary views, aiding exploitation, and, on the other hand, J.-M. Lahy (France), who stood on the side of the Soviet psychotechnicians, and the Soviet psychotechnicians themselves. And alt-hough J. Lahy had not yet fully realized his methodological conclusions politically, his position un-doubtedly marked a turning point that had taken place among bourgeois scientists. The very fact that the VII International conference on psychotechnics was held in Moscow was considered by Kolbanovsky to be deeply symptomatic, signifying the victory of the theory that had defeated ide-alism and mechanism.
Key words: history of psychology, psychotechnics, VII International Conference on Psychotechnics, bourgeois psychotechnics, Marxism.
